Habilitation
Services
Parents and teachers do not like to see their children
struggle. This is particularly true when the child or
adolescent has a disability which makes learning new
information and skills frustrating and difficult.
Cognitive, emotional, physical, communication and
behavioral disabilities are challenging but they need
not lead to frustration and failure.
To "habilitate" is to help an individual maximally
develop his or her native abilities and to acquire the
necessary functional skill sets to live a happy and
personally productive life. Dr. Michaud is experienced
in providing psychoeducational services to children and
adolescents, their families, teachers, and other care
providers. He is committed to helping all individuals,
regardless of their capabilities or disabilities, reach
for and attain their fullest potential.
His goals are:
- To
help each disabled child or adolescent reach his/her
inherent potential
- To
help each child or adolescent to feel good about
themselves and their accomplishments regardless of
their disability
- To
provide teachers, parents, and other caregivers with
educational methods that will help them motivate and
teach children the skills necessary to grow.
His
services focus on:
- Each
students' strengths, not weaknesses
- The
use of positive motivators to help the student learn
new skills and to control inappropriate behaviors
-
Clinically proven methods of behavior change and
educational instruction that have been successful in
